mini stops!

Welcome back! To recap, I have been on a family trip on a Mediterranean cruise, going from Athens to Venice. This is post two of three with pictures on the way, once we get back stateside! This post will cover the countries between the two big countries and all of the adventures they brought.

Our fourth stop was in Kotor, Montenegro, which was the only port we tendered in. Waking up here felt like a Norwegian town, with the fortified city and the fjord mountains’ walls. It was so beautiful and one of the coolest stops to wake up with. Once we were ready, we took the tender boat into town and found a local tour company to drive us around. Since my grandparents were with us, it was easier to drive, but it also allowed us the chance to see some pretty cool things. The private tour (which has four of us smooshed in the backseat), started with one of the most breathtaking viewpoints on the mountains above the bay, then took us across the city to a coastal town to see the manmade island called “Our Lady of the Rocks.” Afterwards, we finished by doing some shopping, then eating in the ship’s Italian restaurant where we had a reservation. My grandma and I both got new perfumes, then we watched the Newlywed Game show (I was dying of laughter).

Our fifth stop was in Split, Croatia, and the earliest day for my sister, Maddie, for those who don’t know, she is not an avid morning person. We started the day with a Game of Thrones-themed tour of some filming locations. It was definitely not the prettiest port we stopped at, and a lot more urban than other places. We got to see a fortress on a hill and some dungeons they had used to film the fourth season, which was cool, but we ended up ditching the tour early to go shopping and explore ourselves. I got my normal portrait from the stop. Overall, it was not the fan favorite stop.

Our sixth stop was Koper, Slovenia. We had a much later start to the morning here, with our excursion not being till 2 pm. The weather also turned cold and rainy out of nowhere, which none of us had really prepared for. I started the day with a run, then a nap, and we spent the morning packing since luggage was due out at 10 pm. Since it was chilly and raining, we all elected to hang out on the ship longer. The tour started by taking us to a small fishing village with pretty alleyways, but not much shopping. Then we went to a local farmers’ market where we got to try local wines and olive oils. I tried some olives and am happy to report I still cannot stand them, lol. We finished up by going to some ‘wine fountains’ on the top of the local mountains. My mom and I enjoyed the white wine, and Maddie found out she liked the red. Overall, it was a much more relaxed day and not a bad stop along the way, just cold and rainy.

Onto Italy we go! I will update y’all on those adventures in my next post. For now, this is Katie, signing off!
