Welcome to the Army, week 1, and reporting to FT Knox, Kentucky. After a short visit at my cousin’s house in Bowling Green, I drove up to check in to my home for the summer…Fort Knox. I did a full week of inprocessing, listened to a lot of briefs and helped with my first UA, this time as an observer.
For anyone unfamiliar with Kentucky’s wildlife and landscape, it’s mostly woods with deer running pretty wild. Even after growing up in places with deer everywhere, I was still shocked to have my first run-in. I had a full-grown mama deer run straight into the front right headlight section of my new 4Runner. uh oh. Not a fun experience. My roommate called the military police while I called my mom, and I ended up getting listed on the report as the victim, making my first official report as a lieutenant, a police report. lol.

What a fun first week in the Army lol. I will spend the next two months at least administering AFTs and helping with height and weight. My roommate and I did go explore a bit in Louisville, and I have enjoyed going on walks around post. Overall, it is a change of pace, living in barracks, eating at a DFAC (I miss cooking so much), and working some interesting hours, but it should be a fun summer. I have been working out a lot more and getting some needed rest time when off duty.
Stay tuned for the summer’s adventures. For now, this is Katie, signing off.
