Welcome to the army, Lieutenant. I spent 90 days working at Fort Knox this summer, which was both rewarding and a lot of long hours. I was able to do a lot and met some really great people (I learned even MP future officers are cool), including my best friend and battle buddy for most of the summer (who did make fun of me for having an easy BOLC lol). Overall it was a very entertaining and entriching welcome into the army but more specifically cadet command itself.
While at Fort Knox, I held two different jobs. The first one was a grader for the Army Fitness Test & working the Height & Weight. This was a really fun job even though I worked from 0300-1100 most days, which was a much different sleep schedule. I found my groove eventually working out right after we got dismissed and then going on lots of side quests (I’ll tell you more about that later). My seccond job was working a lot more as a executive officer/assistant platoon tactics officer within the 9th regiment. This was a lot more 16 hour days but I worked with a lot of great people and really enjoyed getting to interact with the cadets everyday (even though I stand by them being kinda crazy). My summer ended with a lot of hard work but it was extremely rewarding watching my company graduate knowing that I had been there a year earlier. One of my favorite parts was getting to see all of the cadets seeing their families after a month.
Now for the more fun events and side quests! I had the opportunity to be pretty active with side quests and do fun things throughout my time there. My favorite ones being going to a farmers market with amazing bread with my friend David (the only MP I trust) and going to the zoo with my friend Abby (shes cooler than I am). Abby and I went on a lot of adventures which was awesome but my favorite thing we did was our advetnures to go get Diet Cokes (way better) for me and a Coke Zero (not as cool) for her. It became a fun little adventure when we both only had a little bit of time. She quickly became my battle buddy and I am so grateful the army brought us together. But don’t worry Fort Carson and Fort Bliss arent that far apart.
Oh! I forgot to mention that the army switched my orders, so I will now be going to Fort Carson instead of Fort Wainwright. I was upset at first, but now and honeslty really excited for the new adventures that await me.
I was able to go on two trips while at Fort Knox, the first being a short overnight to Lexington, Kentucky, and the second to Nashville, Tennessee. Lexington was a quick overnight between our two jobs and super fun because we got to go to three dfferent burbon distilleries, my favorite was willet! Nashville was my going away trip and a fun excuse to wear our new cowboy boots. I loved the girl time and Abby and I enjoyed.
I am lucky enough that I am loved, and my mother did come visit, as well as my sister, while I was at Fort Knox. I am so grateful for this and was able to go home and surprise my grandparents on some leave before I started my drive to San Antonio. Well, that’s my big summer update! For now, that’s all.
